Do's and Don'ts at Athena

To ensure a pleasant and carefree stay for everyone at Athena Ossendrecht, we’ve put together some practical guidelines. From quiet hours to waste sorting, from our naturist culture to towel etiquette: everything you need to know to feel right at home here is below. That way, we can all fully enjoy the nature, each other’s company, and the freedom that naturism offers.

Naked or not naked

When the weather and temperature are comfortable, most guests on our park will go nude.

Still feeling a bit shy? Feel free to wrap a towel or pareo around you. Swim trunks and bikinis aren’t allowed on the park. At the swimming pool, we expect everyone to be nude. It’s fine to keep your clothes on until you’re settled in. And if it gets a bit cooler, please don’t get cold.

If we have a convivial dinner in our clubhouse, wearing clothes is normal. Women who are menstruating may prefer to wear underwear.

That’s all perfectly fine.

If you’re heading to the recycling area or your car, do bring clothes with you, since our parking lot is not a nude zone.

Your towel is your best friend

This is something only naturists truly understand, and it’s probably the most common "rookie mistake." You take a stroll around the site, spot one last empty chair by the pool, settle in comfortably and look around, and then you notice it… Everyone, without exception, is sitting on a towel. We naturists see this as a matter of hygiene.

The easiest approach is to simply bring your towel with you everywhere, even if you don’t actually plan to sit down. That way you’re less likely to forget it and won’t have to walk all the way back if you suddenly spot that one empty chair by the pool.

Selfie means just that: a self-shot

Naturists literally bare themselves, which creates a huge sense of freedom. Yet it also leaves you vulnerable, which is why we place great importance on safe and respectful recreation. For that reason, taking photos of nudity on Athena is strictly prohibited.

You may take photos or selfies of your own family in your own spot, but at the park this is not allowed. By the pool, we ask

that you avoid using smartphones, cameras, and tablets. Relax and enjoy the sunshine—you don’t have to share everything

During activities, photos may be taken with the consent of those involved. These images may only be used within Athena’s private groups on social media.

Photos for publication may only be taken with explicit consent from all parties involved.

Car-free park

Car-free park

Athena Ossendrecht is a car-free park so everyone can enjoy nature and children can play safely. Cars must always be parked in the designated parking area.

From April 1 to October 1, you may only drive onto the park by car for a valid reason with explicit permission from Wim or Wendy. If you really need to drive to your pitch, please drive at walking speed. For safety, extra bollards are placed at key points on the roads.

Please put these bollards back in place immediately after passing. Walkers and cyclists can also use the small access gate near the camper dumping station to leave the campsite. For the children’s safety, please always close this gate properly.

Are you thinking of your neighbors too?

On our park, we ask for complete quiet from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. In the clubhouse, quiet hours start at midnight, except during organized activities.

Mowing the lawn or trimming hedges is only allowed between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM or from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

If you like to listen to music at your spot, please keep the volume so it’s only audible within your own area. Your neighbor might prefer a different kind of music.

Expecting guests? Feel free to have a good time but please be considerate of your neighbors.

Scattered throughout the park, you’ll find several sanitary facilities. There are 2 heated sanitary buildings, fully equipped. In warmer weather, you can also use all outdoor showers with warm water.

We ask that you leave these areas tidy after use for the next guests. We take great care in cleaning the bathrooms. If you notice anything left unclean, please report it to reception.

You can empty your portable toilet in the designated disposal tanks. We kindly ask you to use biodegradable toilet fluids whenever possible. Motorhomes can empty wastewater at the designated service point.

Recycle, recycle

Recycle, recycle

Please help us sort waste. Bring separated waste to the recycling area, located in the parking lot. We sort:

  • PD (empty plastic bottles and drink cartons) NOTE: no more metal packaging in PD; these belong in residual waste
  • glass
  • paper
  • residual waste
  • prunings and grass clippings

By sorting, we all contribute to a healthier environment. Bulky waste should be taken to the local container park. Bringing waste from home is not allowed.

Campfire

Campfire

Our park is located within the Kalmthout Heath Nature Reserve. A general ban on smoking and open fires applies. The use of barbecues with open flames is prohibited due to fire risk.

If you use another type of barbecue, please still exercise caution and take all necessary safety measures. Stay close to your barbecue and place it on a stable, safe surface. Having fire extinguishing equipment nearby is highly recommended.

No smoking

Our park is a smoke-free area, meaning you may only smoke (including e-cigarettes) at your own pitch or on the elevated terrace near the clubhouse. Please be extra careful with smoldering cigarette butts, as these have caused forest and heath fires in the past.
